A congregation under God’s blessings in Selma, Alabama

In 1998, Pastor Johnnie Blunt received a calling from God to build a church. God directed Pastor Blunt to an old building which used to be a storefront and laundromat. With a small group of baptized believers, he toured the building and after much prayer, Pastor Blunt obeyed the called and the building was purchased in 1998.

God provided skilled and humble servants to complete the work, just as he did with Nehemiah. Under Pastor Blunt’s leadership and with help from the Deacons and a few faithful members of the church, construction was completed in 1999. Greater New Hope Baptist Church since that humble conception has been blessed to have only one leader, Pastor Johnnie Blunt.

Under the leadership of Pastor Blunt, Greater New Hope has grown not only in numbers, but also in the services it provides its members and the community. We are a church standing on the hill keeping the light of the Lord shining so that travelers may find rest for their bodies and restoration for their souls. We are under God’s blessing, seeking, and saving those who are lost.

We have a long, proven history of serving the people of Selma. Through the dedication of our Pastor, Leadership Team and members are devoted to the teachings of Jesus Christ, and we are here to share His message to the world.

Our greatest joy is to worship his Holy Name and to do his Divine will

The Mission of Greater New Hope Baptist Church is to offer to others what Jesus has imprinted in our hearts: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control and boldness to teach and preach his message as His servants.

Our goals are to:

• Exalt Christ – With worship and praise
• Equip the Saints – By studying, teaching and preaching the word of God
• Encourage Believer’s in words, deeds and being grateful for all things
• Engage with our neighbors and community – giving a helping hand in times of need
• Seek and offer Christ to the lost

Jesus specified that we are to baptize disciples in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen. - Matthew 28:19-20 KJV
